After the party, we went to Johnny Rocket's for dinner. This is one of Carter's favorite restaurants. At the end of the meal, the waiters came out with a large hot fudge sundae and sang Happy Birthday to him. I wish I had a video of his face when he saw them coming. He thoroughly enjoyed his dessert!!

Carter's 6th Birthday

Carter's 6th birthday party was held at the McWane Science Center in downtown Birmingham. We had a blast. There were about 17 kids that attended. Carter chose the "oh gross" package. The kids made slime, experimented with the material inside diapers, etc. They also got to explore the center. It was alot of fun. Can't believe my baby is six years old.

Kennedy had dance recital pictures last week. Her recital is set for the end of May. She has participated in ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop (costume not pictured) this year. We will be adding piano in the fall.

On the way home from Chattanooga, we visited Little River Canyon. It is located right outside of Fort Payne, AL. It is a 12 mile drive with beautiful scenery, hiking, etc. We really enjoyed this!

Kennedy and Carter both climbed the rock wall at Rock City. Kennedy made it to the top of the easy and hard side. Carter made it half way up. They both had a great time and the view was awesome!

Chattanooga for Spring Break

We spent spring break in Chattanooga, TN. We had a blast. It was so nice to take the kids somewhere I visited as a child. We visited the aquarium, Ruby Falls, Rock City, and the Incline Railway. We stayed at the Chattanooga Hotel. The kids enjoyed swimming in the indoor pool. The Lady Tar Hills were staying there at the same time. Can't wait to go back.

Day at Oak Mountain State Park

The kids and I spent a day at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham. We started with the petting zoo, visited the "beach", went paddle boating, and went on a hike. We had such a good time and the weather was perfect.

Girls Trip to Nashville

Rochelle, Susan, Jill and I traveled to Nashville for a wonderful girls trip. We had a blast. Jill and I flew in from Birmingham; Susan flew in from Dallas, and Ro drove up from Jackson. We spent Friday afternoon shopping in Franklin. What a cute town. Loved it! We ate at Chappy's on Church Friday night. Chappy's used to be on the coast. We ate there all of the time when we lived in Gulfport. He moved to Nashville after Katrina. He came out to see us and and we had a wonderful dinner. Saturday, we slept in and spent most of the day shopping in Nashville. We went downtown that night. We were so exhausted after all that, we had dinner in the hotel restaurant. Sunday morning, Ro had to leave us, so Jill, Susan, and I ate at the Noshville Diner and spent the afternoon visiting before flying home that night. We are already planning next year's trip.

Kennedy and Daddy Date Night

Kennedy had such a great birthday. She and I went to lunch, shopped, and spent the afternoon at Sweet and Sassy getting her nails and hair done. That night, Brad took Kennedy to the ballet to see Cinderella. They attended a dinner before and got to meet dancers from the Alabama Ballet. It was special night for them. She used all of the money she received from relatives to buy an IPod touch.

Kennedy turns 9!!!!

Kennedy turned 9 on February 21st. I went to the school and bought slushies for her class. Mrs. Hester was so nice and Kennedy was so excited to get her picture with her teacher (notice the blue teeth). Later that night, she had a sleepover with 12 girls. I am now officially retired from sleepovers. It was exhausting. She had alot of fun and the girls were great. We did a couple of painting activities, skits, wii tournaments, etc. Carter was the "bell hop" and took care of everyone's bags.

Carter Lost a Tooth

Since the first tooth he lost was pulled by the dentist because of a fall, this was his first real tooth loss. He played with it for days, then his kindergarten teacher pulled it. Thank God. I can't even look at a wiggley tooth. He was so excited about his $2 and 4 quarters.

It has been such a long time since I have updated the blog. Sorry. We took a trip to Louisiana in January to visit mine and Brad's family. We had a really good time and it was nice seeing relatives we haven't seen in a while. My children went duck hunting, if you can believe that. They were so excited. Of course, neither one touched a gun, just watched. Even though Brad met Brett for the first time, they became fast friends. I love the picture of Vicky B and Carter in the bed. They look like an old married couple. It's always nice getting to see my sisters.

Lavallet Sunday School Party

We hosted our Sunday School Party on January 2nd. It was alot of fun. Brad made chicken/sausage gumbo and homemade meatpies! We also played a "re-gift" version of dirty Santa. Everyone brought a gift they received that they wanted to "re-gift". We all had a good time and got to catch up.

Our good friends, the Reid's, came to town for the New Year's holiday! They moved to Dallas last summer. We had such a great visit with them. They arrived New Year's Eve and we hung out at the Youngs and grilled steaks. Jill, Susan, and I shopped on New Year's Day. We had a game night, football night, movie day (Bedtime Stories), and the guys played paintball. The week was definitely a blast! We miss the Reids!!!!!

Polar Express at the McWane Center

We went to the McWane Center downtown to enjoy a Polar Express Party. We were able to meet Santa and have hot chocolate and cookies. The kids got to enjoy all of the activities at the Center, which included a hurricane tube (where the wind got up to 78mph), a mind game, etc. We ended the night watching Polar Express in the IMAX dome. It was a wonderful time and a great experience for our family.

Carter's kindergarten class went on a fieldtrip to Old Baker's Farm in November. I was extremely sick with a stomach virus, so Brad went with him. They had a great time and the weather was beautiful. Carter brought me home a pumpkin. He was able to pick cotton, feed and pet animals, and go on a hayride. They also went through a hay maze. We've been to Old Baker's Farm about 8 times in the three years we've lived here. It is always such a great time.

Last Wednesday, Kennedy's 3rd grade class went to Worldsong to learn about Native American history. It was really cool. The kids learned about making spears, sand art, song and dance, tipis, and animal skin art. They also got to cook hotdogs over a fire. The place was really beautiful. For a snack, the kids got to eat Fried Najavo Bread with cinnamon and sugar on it....I think that was their favorite part.

Carter's class was chosen to paint pictures of themselves and display them at Zoe's (greek restuarant in Hoover). The pictures will be on display until January 11th. They are all for sale for a donation of at least $20, with all money going to their school. We took the children to lunch there today and purchased Carter's picture. He was so excited and proud! We have to leave it on display until January. So, if your in Hoover go by and look for Carter's picture. He has a red shirt on and a football on it.

Today was such an important day for our family, especially Kennedy. She was baptized today at Hunter Street Baptist in Hoover, AL. The man that baptized her was Bro. Mark, who is the children's minister. Because our family lives so far away, many friends from our Sunday School class stood with us. Thank you, Jack, Terri, Brian, Scott, Jill, Everett, Gregg, Mina, and Jeff. Mrs. Hester, Kennedy's 3rd grade teacher, also stood with us. I know there were many there in spirit. Kennedy was so happy and thankful that so many people love her. What a joy to know your baby girl will spend eternity with her Heavenly Father! Click on the video below. Fun Run!

Today was the Fun Run at Kennedy and Carter's school. It was a fundraiser that involved getting pledges from family and friends on how many laps each child could run today. Each class had 30 minutes to run a track that was 1/16 mile. The lap cap was 35 laps. Carter completed all 35 laps. He was so proud of himself. Kennedy completed 33 laps, which was awesome since she's been so sick for the last couple of days. Today was the first day this week, she even went to school. We had to check her out as soon as the fun run was over.

Extremely Busy Week!

This was one of the busiest weeks. I was at the school for several hours each day last week. I volunteered in Carter's class on Monday and had lunch with both kids. On Tuesday, we had the Boosterthon Pep Rally. On Wednesday, we had a Dare Program. Thursday was Carter's Halloween party and Brad had surgery on his face. He has basal cell carcinoma. Friday I went to see Disney on Ice with Carter's Kindergarten class and Brad was in Kennedy's class all day helping with Native American Day. It was Carter's weekend to bring "Izzie" home. Izzie is his class guinea pig, which he says is a pig from the rodent family. How funny is that? Friday was also Halloween, which means trick or treating and staying up late eating candy. Saturday, Kennedy and I spent the day at Camp Coleman for the a Girl Scout Service Weekend. Carter and Brad had golf lessons. Sunday was church and washing cars. Kennedy obviously picked up a virus and has been sick all day. Hope next week is a little less dramatic.

Tonight, we carved a cross in our pumpkin. Kennedy brought home an assignment from the Bible Club she belongs to that asked us to carve a cross into a pumpkin. We used it as our nightly devotion and read Bible verses during the experience. We all had a great time and ended up with a beautiful jack o lantern!

Halloween Party '08

Tonight, the kids and I went to a Halloween party in our neighborhood. They had a blast. All of the food was "halloweeny"...from wicked witch warts (raisins) to mummy fingers (imitation crab) and even dry ice in the punch, everything was so cool. They were able to bob for apples, hunt Halloween eggs, and participate in a bean bag toss and limbo contest. It was alot of fun.....that is until I backed into my neighbor's car as I was leaving. For those of you who know me, this will not be a surprise. I've actually not any kind of accident for several years, but that ended tonight. It was really nice to go back into the party and tell me neighbors to come outside and look at the damage I did to their car. This topped off a lovely (not) week. Hopefully, next week will be better.

Today was the last day for Fall Ball. Carter had a double header, so we were at the ball park from 2:30 to 6:30. He got several good hits and did really good at pitcher and shortstop. He really loves it. Brad has enjoyed being able to help coach. The games have been on Sunday, so he's been off and able to be there. Kennedy is sad because she has been "babysitting" one of our friends' daughter during the games. She's made $50 this season; which is more than I've made in a while. The boys got to enjoy a pizza party after the final game, which was wild. It's been alot of fun, but it will be nice to have our Sunday afternoons back.

Today was another Fall Sunday, which included baseball and girl scouts. Of course, Brad is still out of town on his golf trip. I really don't know how single parents do it! Carter was not having alot of luck hitting off of the pitching machine, so during the 3rd inning, I walked over to the dugout and told him if he hit off the machine, I would give him $2. This absolutely worked!!! He got a hit on the very next at bat! I know that bribing him probably wasn't the best idea, but it worked. Yeah Carter!!

My friend, Jill Young, and I went to the Birmingham Women's Show. We had a wonderful day of shopping, eating, and most importantly seeing Jon and Kate from the TLC show Jon and Kate plus eight. I watch them every Monday, so it was so cool seeing them in real life. I felt like Jon was looking at me like he knew me. Jill thought I was crazy. I wish the kids would have been there, but it was nice to see them.

More Baseball!

We had another baseball game today. Carter played catcher. Needless to say, I prayed the whole time he was behind homeplate. Brad told me I couldn't talk to him, but that didn't stop him from talking, giving pointers, and physically moving him right in the line of the ball. He caught several balls and covered the plate when he was suppose to. He also hit a line drive to center field that earned him a triple. He is really a good player. We are so proud of him. He loves baseball. He was looking forward to playing catcher, but after two innings of squatting, I think he got it out of his system (let's hope so). Mommy doesn't like him being in the line of fire.

We went to the Youngs' party for the LSU/ Auburn game. For those of you who have never lived in Alabama....there are only 2 college football teams that exist to these people (Alabama and Auburn). My children have lived here too long, because Kennedy is an Auburn fan and Carter is an Alabama fan (although, on this night he wore Auburn clothes). They are told at school, they have to choose either Alabama or Auburn. We are trying hard to reverse the brainwashing that occurs, but right now they are determined to be non LSU fans. I KNOW they will grow out of this. We had a blast at the party. Brad and I were the only LSU fans there and we WON!!!! Everyone was very gracious and enjoyed the "Louisiana" food we brought. Now, to defeat Alabama in November! GEAUX Tigers!!!!

I have spent the majority of this morning reflecting on what happened 7 years ago today. I have prayed for the victim's families, our leaders, and our country as a whole. The way our country pulled together after this tragedy was absolutely amazing. I am so very proud to be an American! I am also proud of the men and women who serve this country. I remembered a tribute song that came out after 9/11 and decided to post it. It is an example of God being sovereign and in control of everything. Fall Ball has begun!

Yesterday was Carter's first baseball game of the season. This year, he is playing in the machine pitch league. His team won by two runs. He played first base. In this league, the boys get five pitches from the machine. If they don't hit the ball after the 5th pitch, the coach brings out the tee and they hit off of that. He got three really good hits. It was a great game and we are so proud of Carter. I will try to add video later.

Louisiana Trip!!!

The children and I just returned from Louisiana. We were able to visit both of my sisters and their families, several aunts and and uncles, and both of my grandmothers. One of my oldest and dearest friends, Laina, was also in town. It was a great trip, just too short. We weren't suppose to come home until tonight, but due to Gustav and evacuations, we came home last night. The trip usually takes us about 7 hours. It took us almost 10 yesterday. I finally met my newest neice and nephew, Cooper Allen and Chloe Grace. I have two friends with twins and now my sister. I honestly don't know how they do it. My youngest sister, Lacey just moved into their new house. They built it as they could afford to, so she is 29 years old and owns a house out right. I personally can't imagine that, but I am so proud of them. The other baby in the picture is Lacey's youngest, Brett.

The Birmingham News put an ad in their Snapshot section the first day of school, asking for photos of your child's first day of school. I sent one of Kennedy and Carter in and it was selected. It was printed in the Snapshot section on Wednesday. They were so excited to see themselves in the paper and take a copy to their teachers. I tried to get a link to add to the blog, but the page is not on their website. I took these of the newspaper sitting on our table. Enjoy!

While my dad and stepmother were visiting from Africa, we took a trip to Desoto Caverns (about 40 miles from Birmingham). The kids had a blast. The cave was really cool and they had lots of activities like: cannon wars, bow and arrows, panning for treasure, a maze, etc. We learned alot about the caverns and their tie to Native Americans in Alabama. It was a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Well, the children have been in school for 2 weeks. I am Kennedy AND Carter's room mom, on the yearbook committee, volunteered for speech and hearing screenings, and just about anything else the PTO needs. Brad thinks I'm crazy, but this is what I've been waiting for. Both children are so excited I'm their room mom. I'll be up at the school alot and they love that. Carter started Fall baseball last night and Kennedy is taking a hip hop dance class and has girl scouts. Obviously, we'll be quite busy during the school year. We (meaning me and the kids) are traveling to Louisiana for Labor Day weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing my twin neice and nephew I still haven't met. I'll post pictures when I get home.

Well, we survived Kennedy's return to school and Carter's first day of kindergarten. Many tears were shed, but not in front of my little man. He was so excited and glad to be starting big school. My babies are growing up. Kennedy already loves her teacher and is looking forward to 3rd grade. Carter's favorite part of the day was recess. They both made new friends and can't wait to return tomorrow. The milestones are always so exciting and sad (at least for me) at the same time. Brad took the day off to console me. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a little easier.

Carter's Hospital Stay

As most of you know, Carter was diagnosed with a staph infection in his lungs and pneumonia. We were in Children's hospital for 6 days. He was discharged with a PICC line and on two separate antibiotics. The line was removed yesterday and we go to the pediatrician tomorrow and hopefully will receive good news about his blood work. He wanted me to put some pictures of his hospital stay on the blog. It was a really rough two weeks, but we are soooooo thankful he is recovering so quickly. Thanks be to God!!!

We recently attended another Baron's Game (Hoover's Minor League Team). We go all of the time and they usually have a lot of things going on, but this night they featured John Deere tractors out front, Star Wars characters, and Miss Alabama signing autographs. Carter had her sign his baseball. It was a lot of fun.

Kennedy attended a camp at "Sweet and Sassy". It was a week filled with facials, manicures, pedicures, getting your hair and make up done, manner classes, etiquette classes, fashion classes, learning dances, and learning cheers. Obviously, she had a blast. I wish someone would have a camp like that for moms. On the last day, they preformed a show for the parents and siblings. Carter was so excited that he had his own chair up front.

We just got back from the Beach with some of our best friends, Jason,Rochelle, Ethan, and Isabella Hicks. We spent 6 days in Sandestin, Florida. It was a blast and we were not ready to come home! We spent many hours swimming in the pool, playing on the beach, shopping, and golfing. Those are the activities we do every year. This year we decided to add a couple of new things since the kids are getting older. Brad and Carter went fishing on the "Little Nemo" and Kennedy and I went parasailing (800 feet). Both activities were a blast! Kennedy and I didn't have the camera, but made friends with some people on the boat, who will be sending us some photos. I'll upload them as soon as I get them. We also played putt putt golf. Not that it matters, but I won!!! Yes, I beat the two golfers in the house. Needless to say, Brad wants a rematch. Kennedy and Carter also did some bungee trampolining. They loved it! Carter didn't get as high as Kennedy, but he did try.

No, not us! We have some dear friends moving to Dallas, Shay and Susan Reid. This is the first time in our marriage that people are moving away from us. We are always the ones to move. We recently had a going a way dinner at a local restaurant. We will miss you!

Kennedy finally goes to the American Girl Store

Kennedy and I traveled with some friends to the American Girl Doll store in Atlanta on Thursday. I was suppose to take her for her birthday (February), but we just found time to go. She has American girl dolls and accessories, but we've ordered everything online. The store was a blast. We had lunch at the Bistro, where they had high chairs for their dolls. I kinda lost my mind a little. I was encouraging her to get WAY more than she even wanted. I found a doll I wanted for myself. It was so fun, it was like being a little girl again. We can't wait to go to the ones in Chicago and New York.

Graduation!!!!!

Carter graduated from preschool on May 15th. It was a very hard day for me. He is growing up so fast and it breaks my heart that he and I won't be able to spend our days together anymore. I asked him to stay home one more year with me, but he said "I'm five...I have to go to kindergarten....It is the law!". He is so ready to start big school. He led the class and guest in the Pledge of Allegiance at the ceremony. Brad and I were so proud. My baby is really growing up!

Carter finished his t-ball season. He starts a baseball camp next week and plans to play fall ball when school starts. Looks like I'm destined to be a baseball mom!

Kennedy and the Enrichment Program!

Kennedy was selected to be part of the Enrichment Program at her school next year. We are so proud of her! The Enrichment teacher observed the 2nd grade students all year and tested several based on observation and teacher recommendations. She did well enough to be part of the program next year. It is for 3rd thru 5th graders. It is similiar to the Gifted and Talented program in Louisiana. Way to go, Ken!

My Husband Rocks!!!!

Just wanted to shout from the mountain tops how wonderful my husband is. It all started Saturday night....he took me to dinner and a movie and bought me a birthday cake from my favorite bakery. Sunday morning, I was taken to Ross Bridge Resort for a day at the spa (massage, facial, etc.). I met him and the kids at the pool that afternoon. He watched the children while I sunbathed and listened to my ipod. I ate lunch with them and played with the kids a bit. That night, they took me to dinner then dropped me back off at the resort. I stayed there over night by myself! I took a bubble bath, read a book, painted my nails, and just relaxed! It was AWESOME!!!!!!! I slept in on Monday (my birthday) while he got the kids ready and took them to school. He picked me up and took me to lunch and spent the day with me. Monday night we went to dinner with the kids and friends of ours. He said I deserved all of the special treatment and he wanted me to know how much he appreciated me for all I do for our family. It was the best Mother's Day/ Birthday ever! At least for this week, I have the best husband in the entire world. Thank you, Brad. I love you!!!!!

We had so much fun at Hollywood Studios. We ate at one of our favorite restaurants, "Prime Time Cafe". For those of you who have never been, it is a 50's style place with black and white tvs on every table. The waitresses are dressed in pink and white gingham and act like a "mother". They give you rules, like no elbows on the table, no whining, etc. Of course, Brad did not abide by the rules. The waitress told him to get up and sing "I'm a little teapot" to all of the customers. Charlie, a friend of ours, was required to join him after making fun of Brad. Enjoy....I did!

Disney Part 2: My children are Jedis!!!!

While at Hollywood Studios (The new name for MGM), we attended the Jedi Training Academy. Kennedy and Carter were both chosen to go on stage. They were given a robe and a light saber. A "real" jedi trained them. In the end, they went up against the "real" Darth Vader. They received certificates and the recognition of becoming a Jedi. Carter enjoyed the experience so much we had to get the R2-D2 robot and a storm trooper to bring home. By the way, R2 is about to drive me crazy. I don't know who likes it more, Carter or Brad.

Disney Part 1: The Lion King Show

We made it back safely, but exhausted from Disney World. Now we need a vacation to recover! The first day we were there, we attended the Lion King Show at Animal Kingdom (a favorite). We sat on the front row and the kids were able to be part of it. They had a blast!!!

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?~ I was living in Gulfport, MS and working for Rehab One as a Speech Therapist at a Nursing Home. Brad and I had been married for 3 years and were having a blast. I made life long friends there.

2. Five Things on my to-do list today.~ Finish packing for Disney, go tan, clean my house, pick up clothes from cleaners, have "We're going to Disney" party (watch a disney movie, eat Mickey Mouse shaped pizzas and Mickey Mouse cookies).

4. What I would do if I were a billionaire.~ Travel the world, pay off my house and that of my family, pay for my kids college along with that of my neices and nephew, donate alot of it, and have alot of fun.

Heading back to Disney!

We are leaving for Disney World this Saturday. Between church, art, gymnastics, and tball, it has been hard getting everything ready. The kids are so excited about the trip. We'll be staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and have a Safari Celebration Dinner planned for our first night there. We'll return the following Saturday. I'll post pictures when I return.

Carter had to have a tooth pulled this morning. This was his first. He is such a trooper. They gave him laughing gas, then three shots, then out came the plyers. He didn't shed one tear. Carter looks at it like another battle scar. He is such a boy! He can't wait to see what the tooth fairy brings.

Carter's first Golf Lesson

If I must say so myself, my son is going to be the next Tiger Woods! He had his first lesson yesterday and loved it! He's been going to the driving range with Brad for the past couple of years, but he actually got to play two holes of golf. He had played baseball for two hours before, so I didn't know how good he would do. Needless to say, he didn't want to leave after 2 1/2 hours.

Trip Home to Louisiana

The kids and I went home to Louisiana for Spring Break. We spent the week with aunts, uncles, cousins, grandmas, and friends. I was able to spend time with my sisters and their kids. I really wish they didn't live so far away. Kennedy and Carter did not want to come home. They were able to do things there that they are NEVER allowed to do at home. Kennedy kept saying, "take a picture for the blog". I think she just wanted proof that I let them shoot a gun, even if it was a BB gun.

Kennedy wins Expo Fair!

Kennedy participated in an Expo Fair at her school. She won first place in the 2nd and 3rd grade category. Her project was on Amelia Earhart. She and her daddy made a model airplane and she and I did lots of research. We are so proud.

After years of saying I was going to do this, I've finally taken the first step. I plan to use this blog to share pictures and stories with friends and family all over the world. We are the Kerrigans: Brad, Angel, Kennedy, and Carter. We live in Hoover, Alabama; but are originally from Louisiana. I am a stay at home mother of two (three if you count Brad). Brad is the store manager of Belk Department Store in Trussville, Alabama. Kennedy is very involved in gymnastics and cheerleading. Carter loves baseball and golf.
